Program
Management

I am currently the Director of Development at an arts nonprofit. In this role, I lead fundraising initiatives, steward donors and sponsors, and contribute to organizational advancement.

Previously, I worked in higher education as an English professor. I led various programs and committees in a university environment. Through these positions, I spearheaded curriculum revisions, partnered with external organizations, and mentored undergraduate students.

During my career, I have developed internal and external communications strategies, evaluated programmatic outcomes, reported progress to stakeholders, planned outreach events, overseen budgets, and hired contractors.

Teaching
& Consulting

I have developed a wide range of cross-disciplinary courses for a diverse student population. I have taught and advised a high number of first-generation minority students, many of whom come from rural communities. Additionally, a large percentage of my students have been nontraditional adult learners and/or military affiliated. Outside of the classroom, I have applied my analysis and curriculum expertise to consult with multiple organizations. For instance, I have reviewed courses for the American Council on Education (ACE) to determine college credit alignment, and I have consulted with Fayetteville State University’s Center for the Advancement of Liberal Arts and STEM (CALAS) to review the instructional design of faculty at other universities and to offer feedback for improving pedagogical practices.

My teaching and consulting experiences have prepared me to communicate and interact seamlessly with individuals from diverse backgrounds. I am well-equipped to create, manage, and support organizational programming from conception to implementation regardless of the disciplinary focus.

Writing
& Editing

With an MA and PhD in English, I have strong writing and editing skills that I have successfully utilized in a range of environments. In my professional career, I have authored and revised grant proposals for nonprofit and federal agencies; I have researched, drafted, and published scholarly articles and book chapters; I have compiled data for program assessment reports and institutional accreditation justifications; and I have written budget requests and other internal communications.

I co-edited the volume Editing the Harlem Renaissance, published by Clemson University Press in 2021 as part of their African American Literature Series. In this role, I recruited a team of subject matter experts, assigned a clear project roadmap, offered feedback at multiple stages, edited chapter manuscripts, cross-checked and verified references, and worked closely with the publisher to meet deadlines.

Additional peer-reviewed articles and chapters have appeared in Atlantic Studies, Journal of West Indian Literature, and Teaching Hemingway and Race, among others.
